Google officially introduced Android 14 during its Made by Google 2023 event held in New York on October 4. Since the rollout of the Android 14 OS update, several users have complained about certain issues they faced with their Pixel devices. Pixel users complained that they faced problems accessing media storage after updating to Android 14.
Tech giant Google has responded to these issues raised by users and added that they are working on fixes for impacted devices. Google also added that they have rolled out a Google Play system update that will help prevent this issue from being triggered on other Pixel devices. Notably, Pixel devices with multiple user profiles are mainly facing this issue. “Depending on the device, this issue can result in the primary user being unable to access media storage. Alternatively, the issue can reboot the device with a “Factory data reset” message,” mentioned a Google community manager on the Google support page. If a user accepts this message, all data that is not backed up on the device will be lost.
The support page also says that the bug affects Pixel 6 and later models that have received the new OS update. Google says that the system update will solve this problem and will also restore access to media files without requiring a factory reset. “If your device is stuck in a “Pixel is starting” boot loop due to this issue, we are investigating methods that may be able to recover some data,” the community manager added. Meanwhile, Android 14 offers several new features to users, including AI-generated wallpapers, more security options, and flash notification features. The Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, launched on October 4, were the first devices to ship with Android 14.
