Sam Altam’s OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT’ launched a new interface called Canvas on Friday which is designed to enhance collaboration on writing and coding projects. The company said that it will aid professionals who are into Coding and other related niches. Canvas is a virtual space where developers can work with ChatGPT’s assistance opening in a separate window to facilitate project collaboration.

Canvas allows users to write or code and highlight specific sections for ChatGPT to focus on which is provided inline feedback and suggestions. This new interface offers several shortcuts for writing and coding tasks along with version history and restore options. It also automatically opens when ChatGPT detects a suitable project or users can prompt it by typing ‘use canvas’.

According to OpenAI, the key benefits of Canvas include easier project management, improved context understanding by ChatGPT, enhanced collaboration and feedback, and increased productivity. Additionally, Canvas can better understand the context of what a user is trying to build and users can control the project directly by editing text or code.

Currently, Canvas is available for ChatGPT Plus and Team users with plans to roll out to Enterprise and Edu users next week. Once out of the beta stage, Canvas will be accessible to all ChatGPT Free users. By introducing Canvas, OpenAI aims to revolutionize the way developers work with ChatGPT, making project collaboration more seamless and efficient.

Open AI stated that the new interface addresses the limitations of the existing chat interface which can be restrictive for projects requiring frequent editing and revisions. Canvas currently provides a more user-friendly experience that enables developers to ask ChatGPT to suggest edits, length adjustments, or feedback on writing projects, review code, add logs, fix bugs, or port coding to different programming languages and will be rolled out to Enterprise and Edu users next week.
