Google-owned YouTube is exploring new ways to unlock the potential of artificial intelligence (AI). Recently, YouTube announced that they are testing two experiments that integrate generative AI into the YouTube viewing experience. A conversational AI tool is the main highlight of the announcement.
The video platform is currently working on a chatbot that can answer any questions about what a user is watching. This AI-powered conversational tool, similar to OpenAI“s ChatGPT, will also provide recommendations for content without interrupting video playback. “For certain academic videos, the tool can aid learning journeys by providing quizzes and responses that encourage deeper understanding,” mentioned YouTube on its support page. Users can access this tool by tapping the new “Ask” button that appears on select videos. This feature is currently available to only a few users in the US, and it will be rolled out to more users in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, YouTube is also working on a generative AI feature that can summarize and categorize comments based on topics. With this feature, users can easily understand and participate in comment conversations. “We’re experimenting with AI that organizes large comment sections of long-form videos into easily digestible themes,” said YouTube. The platform also mentioned that creators can use these comment summaries to quickly jump into comment discussions on their videos and to get inspiration for new content based on what their audiences are discussing. Currently, this AI feature is not available in every video. Creators will also be able to delete any individual comments categorized under any specific topic. Notably, YouTube unveiled a number of AI-powered tools at its annual event last month.
