Burjeel Holdings Stuns 10,000 Frontline Staff with Rs 37 Crore Surprise Bonus at UAE Mega Town Hall
Abu Dhabi, UAE: In a historic display of employee appreciation, Burjeel Holdings surprised nearly 10,000 frontline healthcare workers with a AED 15 million (Rs 37 crore) financial recognition package during a massive town hall address in Abu Dhabi.
The gesture, unveiled by Chairman and CEO Dr Shamsheer Vayalil, covered 85 per cent of the group’s nursing, allied health, patient care, operations, and support staff, marking one of the largest CEO-led gatherings in the UAE’s healthcare sector.
Over 8,500 employees packed the Etihad Arena for what began as a standard leadership address, a statement from the Holdings revealed. Midway through Dr Shamsheer’s speech, the atmosphere shifted dramatically as frontline workers’ phones buzzed with SMS notifications confirming their inclusion in the newly launched BurjeelProud initiative. The bonuses, equivalent to half a month’s to one full month’s basic salary depending on role and category, prompted waves of sustained applause and visible emotion across the arena.

“This is neither a reward for a department nor tied to conditions. This is not because you asked. This is because you are the people on the ground,” Dr Shamsheer declared, praising the indispensable contributions of frontline staff. He underscored the initiative as a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to the workforce powering Burjeel Holdings’ growth in the UAE, a nation that has enabled the group’s expansion as a leading super-specialty provider across the MENA region.
Frontline employees hailed the moment as unprecedented. “It was a real surprise. It felt like a moment for all of us on the frontline,” one nurse shared post-event, capturing the sentiment of many who described it as a deeply personal nod to their daily dedication in patient care.
The announcement aligns with Burjeel Holdings’ Burjeel 2.0 growth phase, emphasising execution, accountability, and people-centric development.
Dr Shamsheer also unveiled ambitious plans for Burjeel Medical City, the group’s flagship facility in Abu Dhabi. By 2030, it aims to transform into a next-generation medical ecosystem, blending complex clinical care with research, medical education, rehabilitation, and patient-focused living spaces. This vision dovetails with Abu Dhabi’s long-term healthcare strategy, positioning the facility beyond a conventional hospital model.
