Israeli minister Benny Gantz has warned Hezbollah, an Iran-backed armed group in Lebanon, that Israel”s military will act to remove it from the border with Lebanon if its attacks continue. Benny Gantz, a member of Israel”s emergency war cabinet, said that the Israeli military would intervene if Hezbollah did not stop firing on northern Israel. The Israeli minister also added that the time for a diplomatic solution is running out.
Amid the war between Israel and Hamas, violence also escalates between Israel and Lebanon’s Hezbollah. Cross-border exchanges of fire have also been escalating. “I want to say to the world: The situation on the northern border requires a change,” said Benny Gantz during a press conference, as quoted by CBS News. Benny Gantz also added that the border community residents who have been evacuated due to the fighting need to be returned to their homes. The Israeli minister also said that if the Lebanon government will not work to distance Hezbollah from the border, then the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will respond. Meanwhile, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi said that Israeli troops were in “very high readiness” for more fighting in the northern region.
At the same time, Hezbollah earlier alleged that Israel has hacked into civilian cameras to target its fighters. Hezbollah accuses Israel of using the footage obtained from CCTV cameras installed outside homes and shops in southern Lebanon to monitor the movements and locations of Hezbollah fighters. Notably, Hezbollah has urged Lebanese citizens to disconnect their cameras linked to the internet to prevent further breaches. According to an Associated Press tally, nearly 160 people have been killed by Israeli airstrikes and shelling in Lebanon. The Associated Press also reported that most of those who were killed in Lebanon were fighters with Hezbollah and allied groups. Meanwhile, the Israeli military says that more than 1,700 rockets have been fired from the Lebanon region toward Israel.
