Scammers Pose As Iranian Authorities, Demand Crypto Payment For Safe Hormuz Passage
Tehran, Iran: Since Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz, the key oil transit route is central attention amid the ongoing US and Israel war against the Islamic Republic. As Iran proposes to impose a transit fee for safe passage along the waterway, there are reports that some unknown actors are claiming to be Iranian authorities, demanding cryptocurrency fees from some shipping companies for safe passage, says Greek maritime company, MARISKS.
The peace talks between the US and Iran had reportedly included points to give Tehran authority over the Strait of Hormuz, which include the right to impose transit fees, as per reports. However, Iran later opened the waterway subject to conditions, and soon closed it again citing lack of commitment from the US.

Tehran shut down the Strait of Hormuz against the US-imposed war, which has directly hit countries around the world by disrupting the oil supply and hence impacting the functioning of the economy.
Several top officials and people’s representatives in Iran have proposed imposing transit fees on ships that cross through the Strait to compensate for the losses Iran incurred in the US-imposed war.
