Amid Blockade, US-Blacklisted Chinese Tanker Crosses Strait Of Hormuz Despite Warning
Defying United States sanctions, a Chinese tanker has passed through the Strait of Hormuz days after Washington imposed a naval blockade on Iran, Al Jazeera reports.
According to shipping data, the tanker Rich Starry, which is Chinese-owned and operated by a Chinese crew, navigated the strategic waterway on Tuesday, April 14. Since 2023, the vessel had been rejected by the US for allegedly helping Tehran evade energy sanctions.

The vessel had earlier approached the narrow channel near Iran’s Qeshm Island before turning back after the US blockage. The tanker’s transit marks its second attempt in less than a day, successfully crossing the Strait.
During this time, the ship broadcast details of its Chinese ownership and crew, a common maritime safety practice that may also test US willingness to enforce restrictions.
