Why Did US-Iran Peace Talks Fail To Reach Agreement In Historic Pakistan-Mediated Negotiation

Islamabad, Pakistan: After 12-hour negotiations, the US vice president, JD Vance on Sunday, April 12, said that their delegations were returning without reaching an agreement with Iran in the historic Islamabad peace talks. The development has dealt a strong blow to the hopes of finding a solution to the global crisis emanating from the US-Israel war on Iran.

As the peace talks fail, Iran is likely to continue closure the Strait of Hormuz, further disrupting the global oil supply, and impacting the economies worldwide. Though it is unclear what caused the failure of the negotiation, the US delegation said Iran does not agree to its terms.

“We will go back to the United States having not reached an agreement…That’s bad news for Iran much more than bad news for the USA,” the US vice president said after the negotiation with Iran.

Notably, the negotiations in Pakistan mark the first highest-level direct talks between US and Iranian officials since the formation of the Islamic Republic in 1979. Earlier, there were conflicting reports that the US has agreed to release the frozen Iranian assets during the peace talk, which was later rejected by some of the US officials.
