While campaigning in Michigan, former US President Donald Trump on Tuesday said that he would meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his upcoming visit to the US.
“He happens to be coming to meet me next week,” Trump told the crowd but did not provide any further details of their meeting.

The meeting between both leaders was not previously reported. Speaking at a campaign event in Flint, Michigan, Trump mentioned the meeting while discussing US-India trade relations.
Trump despite criticising India over a trade without being specific, Trump called Modi “fantastic”.
The Ministry of External Affairs had earlier said that PM Modi would make his visit to the US from September 21-23 for the Quad Leaders summit in Wilmington, Delaware, hosted by President Joe Biden. During his visit, he will also attend the United National General Assembly in New York and meet with members of the Indian community.
PM Modi will address the ‘Summit of the Future’ at the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Monday. The theme of the Summit is ‘Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow’.
He will also interact with the CEOs of leading US-based companies to foster greater collaborations between the two countries in the cutting-edge areas of AI, quantum computing, semiconductors and biotechnology, the foreign ministry said.
Modi will interact with thought leaders and other stakeholders active in the India-US bilateral landscape.
Trump and Modi shared warm relations while the former president was in office. When Trump visited in 2020, Modi held a huge rally for him that also marked the opening of the world’s largest cricket stadium.

Both world leaders had met in February 2020, when the then-US President visited India. Modi then described it as a “path-breaking” moment in strengthening the relations between the two nations.
Meanwhile, some other world leaders who have visited the US in recent months for meetings with Biden and other summits have ended up meeting Trump as well. Donald Trump will face Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris in the November 5 election. Poll shows a tight race between Trump and Harris.
