Major Democratic Fundraiser George Clooney Urges Joe Biden To Drop Out

Four weeks after co-hosting a major fundraiser for President Joe Biden, Hollywood actor and major Democratic fundraiser George Clooney has called for the presidential candidate to quit the race while there was time.

Referring to the 81-year-old’s dismal performance in the recent presidential debate with Republican nominee Donald Trump (78), Clooney said. “The one battle he cannot win is the fight against time.”

In a New York Times guest essay, Clooney wrote, “It’s devastating to say it, but the Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fund-raiser was not the Joe ‘big F-ing deal’ Biden of 2010. He wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate.”

The disastrous election debate had raised concerns over Biden’s capabilities in fighting the upcoming elections. “Was he tired? Yes. A cold? Maybe. But our party leaders need to stop telling us that 51 million people didn’t see what we just saw,” Clooney added.

The Democrat supporter also stated that “every senator and Congress member and governor” that he had spoken with in private believed the same. The actor urged the party to choose a new nominee at its convention scheduled for August, which will “wake up voters in the party’s favour.”

Last month, the Oscar-winning actor hosted a $28 million star-studded fund-raiser in Hollywood for Biden, the largest ever for a Democratic candidate, claimed the party. The fundraiser also featured Hollywood stars Julia Roberts and Barabara Streisand.

Clooney is among the many high-profile figures who have called for the president to end his campaign. Comedian and writer Stephen Colbert, director Michael Moore, author Stephen King, actor John Cusack, and Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings are among the many demanding Biden step down.

Notably, many within the party have also come forward demanding the same. According to The Washington Post, at least 13 members of the Democratic Party expressed concern about him continuing.

A CNN poll found that Vice President Kamala Harris had a better chance of retaining the White House in the elections than the 81-year-old Biden against Trump.

Despite the increasing calls for stepping down, Biden has doubled down and remains determined to continue the presidential race and beat Trump in the November elections.
