
Nepal PM Sushila Karki Declares Gen Z Protest Victims 'Martyrs', Slams Vandalism As Criminal Acts
Kathmandu, Nepal: Nepal new Prime Minister Sushila Karki slammed on Sunday the arson and vandalism that occurred during the Gen Z protest last week. Speaking about the development, the Prime Minister said the incidents were criminal acts against the country.
The Prime Minister further declared that those killed during the uprising will be officially honored as martyrs. The declaration was made during her first address to the nation after assuming the first female prime minister of Nepal. The youth-led protest had forced the county’s former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli resign and fleeing the country.

Karki pointed out that her interim government would support the victims’ families and recognize the sacrifice of young protesters who lost their lives.
After officially starting her duty, the 73-year-old former Chief Justice of Nepal said she was deeply pained by the loss suffered by families, especially those who lost school- and college-going children. The Prime Minister also announced financial aid of Rs 10 lakh to the families of the deceased while promising help to the injured.

“Those killed in the crackdown on the Gen Z Revolution will be declared martyrs,” Kathmandu Post quoted Sushila Karki. She was appointed as the country’s new head following the two-day Gen Z-led protest across the Himalayan nation over widespread corruption in the country.
