U.S. President Donald Trump arrived in Davos, Switzerland, today for the World Economic Forum amid renewed controversy over his push to acquire Greenland, a move that has unsettled European allies and raised fresh concerns within NATO.

Speaking ahead of his Davos meetings, Trump made it clear that Greenland remains a strategic priority for his administration.

He linked the move to national and Arctic security, arguing that the island is vital for countering the growing influence of Russia and China in the region.

Trump told the media that discussions on Greenland would take place in Davos and expressed confidence that an agreement could eventually be reached, despite strong opposition from Europe.

European leaders, including officials from Denmark and Greenland, have rejected the idea of transferring sovereignty but have offered expanded cooperation and a greater U.S. presence on the island.

These proposals, however, have failed to satisfy Trump, who has continued to escalate his rhetoric. NATO leaders have warned that Trump’s stance could strain the alliance at a time when unity is seen as critical.

The controversy has overshadowed Trump’s broader agenda at Davos.

The president is scheduled to deliver a keynote address highlighting what he calls the success of the U.S. economy. According to the White House, Trump will also announce a new housing proposal that would allow Americans to use funds from their 401(k) retirement accounts to help with home down payments, a move aimed at addressing rising housing costs.

Trump’s visit has already drawn attention for breaking diplomatic norms. He publicly shared a private message from French President Emmanuel Macron, who questioned Trump’s approach to Greenland and urged coordination with other G7 leaders.

Trump dismissed the suggestion, further highlighting growing tensions between Washington and its European partners.

During his stay, Trump is expected to hold bilateral meetings with leaders from Switzerland, Poland, and Egypt.

On Thursday, he is also set to preside over a ceremony linked to a newly formed Board of Peace, focused on redevelopment efforts in Gaza amid a fragile ceasefire.
