Bajaj has introduced a new variant of its Chetak electric scooter, named the Chetak 2901, with a starting price of Rs 95,998 (ex-showroom, Bangalore). This new model targets entry-level buyers and competes with other electric scooters like the TVS iQube, Ola S1 X, and Ampere Magnus. Bookings for the Chetak 2901 are currently open at all 500 Chetak showrooms across India and through the brand’s official website, with deliveries scheduled to begin on June 15.
Design and Positioning
Chetak 2901 is positioned below the Chetak Urbane, serving as the entry point into Bajaj’s electric scooter lineup. Visually, it remains identical to the other variants, maintaining the classic Chetak design. The new variant will be available in five color options: Red, White, Black, Lime Yellow, and Azure Blue.
The Chetak 2901 is designed, specced, and priced to attract customers who are currently purchasing a petrol scooter to a proper full-size metal body electric scooter that can match and exceed a petrol scooter, without denting their wallet.
Specs and Features
The Chetak 2901 is powered by a smaller 2.8kWh battery compared to the 2.9kWh battery found in the Chetak Urbane. Despite the smaller battery, the Chetak 2901 claims a range of 123 km (ARAI) on a single charge, which is higher than the Urbane’s 113 km range. However, it has a lower top speed of 63 kmph, compared to the Urbane’s 73 kmph (both claimed).
In terms of features, the Chetak 2901 comes equipped with a coloured digital console, alloy wheels, and Bluetooth connectivity. To enhance its appeal, Bajaj offers an optional TecPac, which adds several advanced features such as hill hold, reverse, sport and economy modes, call and music control, follow-me-home lights, and additional Bluetooth App connectivity.
Market Position and Strategy
The introduction of the Chetak 2901 highlights Bajaj’s strategy to capture a broader segment of the electric scooter market by offering a competitively priced yet feature-rich model. By positioning the Chetak 2901 as an affordable alternative to petrol scooters, Bajaj aims to attract budget-conscious customers looking for a cost-effective and environmentally friendly transportation option.
The new Chetak 2901 is expected to bolster Bajaj’s presence in the rapidly growing electric scooter market in India. With its blend of classic design, modern features, and competitive pricing, the Chetak 2901 is set to appeal to a wide range of customers, particularly those transitioning from petrol-powered scooters to electric alternatives.
Overall, the launch of the Chetak 2901 marks a significant step for Bajaj in expanding its electric vehicle portfolio and catering to the diverse needs of the Indian scooter market.
