Honda 0 Series Concept To Be Unveiled As Part Of Seven Planned 0 Series

Next month, Honda will reveal its 0 Series SUV concept, setting the stage for production to begin in 2026. The SUV is the second of seven planned 0 Series cars that are expected to be released by the end of the decade, and it will be displayed at CES in Las Vegas with the previously unveiled Honda 0 Series sedan prototype. These cutting-edge, futuristic Honda EVs will be mounted on a brand-new, custom platform that was created from scratch.

Early technical information on the platform’s potential has already been made public by Honda. Both single- and dual-motor powertrain options will be available for the 0 Series cars, which will use newly designed compact e-axles that, according to Honda, can be installed lower in the vehicle to increase aerodynamic efficiency and free up space. Two distinct e-axle units in three possible combinations will be included in 0 Series cars, at least initially. The base versions will have rear-wheel drive and a 245 horsepower powerplant on the back axle. Two four-wheel-drive, dual-motor models that combine a 68-hp front axle motor with a 245-hp rear motor will also be available.

As with previous EVs, the battery pack will fit beneath the floor; however, Honda stated that the goal is to make it as small as possible, stating that it is around 8 mm thinner than EV batteries made by competitors. The 0 Series SUV will use a battery that uses nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) chemistry and has a capacity of between 80kWh and 90kWh, with an anticipated range of around 480km. However, Honda has not yet provided all the information.

According to Honda, the 0 Series platform’s body construction was designed to distribute the force of a crash to the side of the structure, minimizing the amount of space needed for battery protection up front and back. The SUV will have a steer-by-wire throttle, and to improve handling, the system’s control unit will be connected with the suspension, brake, and regen units. The lightweight aluminium frame is notable for its ability to bend when cornering at high speeds, shifting weight to the outside of the wheels to enhance balance.

Every model in the 0 Series will be a software-defined car that can get software updates via the air to provide new features and improvements. They will be equipped with a variety of cameras, radar, and lidar sensors to provide up to level-three (or “eyes-off”) autonomy in specific scenarios. The 0 Series cars will first be produced in Honda’s Ohio, USA, facility, which will be modified to accommodate both ICE and EV.
