Tata Nexon.ev Facelift: Everything You Need To Know

Tata Motors has recently unveiled the updated Tata Nexon EV, coinciding with the launch of its internal combustion engine counterpart. Both versions share similar design elements, with the electric Nexon receiving distinct styling cues. Positioned as a direct competitor to the Mahindra XUV400 in the market, the Nexon EV boasts significant improvements, including improved range, compared to its predecessor.

Exterior Design:

The Nexon EV”s design draws inspiration from the Tata Curvv concept, resulting in a striking resemblance to its ICE counterpart. There are visible differences that set them apart. The LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) on the electric version span the width of the front grille and can also display the charging status. The front bumper features a sealed-off design compared to the mesh-like pattern on the ICE Nexon. Both variants share the same 16-inch alloy wheel design, a slender accent line, and prominent wheel arches. At the rear, the full-width light bar remains, but the faux skid plate on the bumper has been updated, and the “ev” badge signifies its electric nature.

Powertrain and Range:

The Nexon EV is available in two variants: MR and LR, powered by 30 kWh and 40.5 kWh battery packs, respectively. Despite unchanged battery sizes, both variants boast improved range, with the MR offering 325 km and the LR offering 465 km, according to ARAI. Both variants are equipped with second-generation permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM), weighing 20 kg less than their predecessors. The power output remains the same as the previous EV version, with 129 hp for the MR and 145 hp for the LR, while torque output has been reduced to 215 Nm for both variants.

Performance and Driving Modes:

Tata claims impressive performance figures for the Nexon EV LR, including a top speed of 150 km/h and a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 8.9 seconds. The MR variant reaches the 0-100 km/h sprint in 9.2 seconds. The vehicle offers three driving modes: Eco, City, and Sport, which adjust power delivery. There are four brake-regeneration levels that can be controlled using paddle shifters, harnessing energy during braking to recharge the battery.

Charging and Connectivity:

The Nexon EV features a 7.2 kW AC charger as standard, allowing for a 10-100 percent charge in just 4.5 and 6 hours for the MR and LR variants, respectively. With a 50 kW DC fast charger, the LR variant can achieve a 10-80 percent charge in only 56 minutes. Notably, the Nexon EV supports vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) features, enabling it to power other electrical appliances or even charge other EVs.

Interior and Features:

Inside, the Nexon EV showcases a refreshed design with leather inserts and carbon-fibre-like trim. A prominent 10.25-inch touchscreen display takes centre stage, complemented by an all-digital instrument panel capable of displaying navigation maps. The steering wheel remains a two-spoke design with an integrated screen displaying the Tata Motors logo. Physical buttons for HVAC controls have been replaced by a touch panel, and slimmer AC vents flank the dashboard. The vehicle offers an array of features, including connected car technology, smartphone connectivity, wireless charging pads, ventilated front seats, fast-charging Type-C ports, a single-pane sunroof, 360-degree camera, and a nine-speaker JBL audio system.

Safety Features:

Safety is a priority, with standard features including ABS and six airbags. Additional safety elements comprise a blind-view monitor, hill descent control, hill climb assist, disc brakes on all wheels, panic brake alert, three-point seatbelts for all passengers, and emergency and breakdown assist. A blind-spot monitor warns drivers of nearby vehicles.

Variants and Pricing:

The Nexon EV is available in six trim levels, mirroring the ICE variant”s nomenclature: Creative+, Fearless, Fearless+, Fearless+ S, Empowered, and Empowered+. Prices start at Rs 14.74 lakh for the base MR Creative+ variant and go up to Rs 19.94 lakh for the LR Empowered+ variant. Its primary competitor is the Mahindra XUV400, with a similar price range of Rs 15.99–Rs 19.39 lakh.

Tata Motors has significantly improved the Nexon EV, offering improved range, performance, and an extensive list of features, making it a compelling choice in the electric vehicle segment.
