The eagerly anticipated Dacia Bigster, a seven-seater SUV based on the Renault Duster platform, has been spotted ahead of its global debut later this year. Developed under the Dacia brand initially, it will later receive a Renault variant. Set to offer both 4×2 and 4×4 configurations, the Bigster will cater to various markets with terrain modes including Auto, Snow, Mud/Sand, Off-road, and Eco.
The Dacia Bigster shares its platform with the Renault Duster, utilizing the CMF-B platform commonly found in Renault-Nissan products globally. Expected to measure approximately 4.6 meters in length, it surpasses the new Duster by around 300mm, featuring a slightly longer wheelbase and larger rear doors akin to the Hyundai Alcazar. While retaining design cues and body panels from the Duster, the Bigster will exude rugged aesthetics, incorporating interior elements from its counterpart while integrating upscale materials and additional creature comforts to justify its elevated price point.
In terms of powertrain options, specifics regarding the engine remain unconfirmed for the upcoming SUV. However, it is anticipated that the Bigster will offer similar choices to the Duster lineup. Prospective options may include a 1.6-liter four-cylinder petrol-hybrid or a 1.2-liter turbo-petrol engine. The 1.6-liter variant could feature two electric motors and a 1.2kWh battery, enabling extended pure electric driving capabilities and equipped with an automatic gearbox. Alternatively, the 1.2-liter unit may deliver 130 bhp of power, paired with a 48V starter motor. While the Duster may include a 1.0-liter petrol-LPG option in select markets, no diesel variant is currently confirmed. The Bigster”s drivetrain options, available in 4×2 and 4×4 configurations, will offer versatility across different terrains with specialized terrain modes.
In the Indian market, the Renault Duster SUV is slated for release in the latter half of 2025, followed by the introduction of the Bigster SUV. Positioned to compete with prominent SUVs such as the Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV700, and MG Hector Plus, the Bigster aims to carve its niche. Meanwhile, the Duster will contend with formidable rivals including the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate, and Toyota Hyryder.
As anticipation builds for the arrival of the Dacia Bigster and Renault Duster, enthusiasts await the unveiling of these vehicles, expected to offer a blend of performance, versatility, and comfort tailored to diverse markets.
