Urban Adventure Redefined: Tata Motors Unveils Upgraded 2024 Safari For Emerging Markets

Tata Motors continues its ambitious overhaul of SUVs, unveiling the redesigned Safari, signalling a strategic move in its aggressive plan to revamp and reposition its sports utility line-up. Following the facelifts of the Nexon ICE and EV models, the Harrier and the Safari undergo a comprehensive redesign aimed at modernising design, enhancing features, and ensuring competitive safety standards.

Design Evolution

A significant departure from the previous design language, the facelifted Safari introduces a cleaner, more upscale aesthetic. Notable changes include the elimination of the tri-arrow design signature, presenting a refined look that aligns with contemporary trends. The 2024 Safari shares similarities with the Harrier but incorporates subtle differentiators to give it a unique identity.

The front design boasts a wider and deeper bonnet grille, featuring a parametric grille with distinctive slats and a metallic finish. The integration of bi-LED headlamps and fog lamps adds sophistication, complemented by an enlarged air dam and faux aluminium skid plate. The rear showcases reprofiled taillamps with a connecting LED DRL bar, contributing to an overall premium appearance.

Platform and Variants

Built on the new Common Module Family (CMF) platform, the Safari positions itself above the India-spec Kiger, emphasising Tata Motors” commitment to emerging markets. The SUV comes with 19-inch “spider” alloy wheels, while Smart and Pure variants feature 17-inch rims, and Adventure persona variants are equipped with 18-inchers. The variant line-up embraces the Persona strategy, introducing Smart, Pure, Adventure, and Accomplished trims, each with optional “Plus” packs and #Dark editions.

Interior Upgrade

Addressing the need for a more upmarket cabin, the 2024 Safari features a refined interior with upgraded materials, colour themes, and finishes. The cabin hosts a new steering wheel with a rectangular illuminated steering boss, upholstered seats in Benecke Kaliko Oyster white leatherette, and a faux wood trim on the dash. The introduction of dual-zone air conditioning, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, and electric adjustments for front seats contributes to a premium feel.

The cabin prioritises passenger comfort, offering features like seat ventilation, a generous third row of seats, cooled storage spaces, and USB Type-C fast chargers. The introduction of Personas-based interior themes adds character and sophistication to the Safari”s cabin.

Performance and Safety

Powered by the Kryotec 2-liter diesel engine, the Safari maintains its focus on performance. With a 6-speed manual and automatic transmission, the engine generates 170PS of peak power and 350Nm of max torque. The three terrain response modes (highway, wet, and off-road) and three drive modes (Eco, City, and Sport) enhance the SUV”s versatility.

The 2024 Safari incorporates advanced driver assistance systems, including adaptive cruise control and auto emergency braking, reinforcing its commitment to safety. The Omegarc platform ensures intrinsic safety, and the SUV features up to seven airbags, hill-hold control, and advanced electronic stability with 17 functions.

Ride Quality and Pricing

The ride quality of the Safari has been improved with adjustments to spring rates and dampers, providing a more comfortable and stable experience. Introductory prices range from ₹16.2 lakh to ₹25.5 lakh (both ex-showroom), offering a competitive proposition in the SUV segment.

Tata Motors” revamped Safari represents a significant stride in its SUV portfolio transformation. With a focus on modern design, enhanced features, and advanced safety, the 2024 Safari is poised to tackle the urban jungle, offering consumers a compelling option in the competitive SUV market.
