India”s personal computer (PC) market witnessed strong growth during the July–September quarter of 2023, with over 4.5 million units sold. The PC market, consisting of desktops, notebooks, and workstations, marked a 14 percent growth year over year (YoY) compared to last year.
As per the latest report by the International Data Corporation (IDC), the notebook category witnessed 13.1 percent YoY growth, and the desktop category grew by 19.3 percent. At the same time, while the consumer segment grew by 26.3 percent YoY, the commercial segment registered flat growth. The education sector logged significant growth of 117.5 percent in the third quarter. According to IDC, this growth is due to the Gujarat education project.
As per the IDC report, HP, the American multinational IT company, led the PC market, seizing a 29.4 percent share. In the commercial and consumer segments, HP is dominating with shares of 34.3 percent and 25.9 percent, respectively. While factors like growth in the education and government sectors helped HP in the commercial segment, positive market sentiment played a vital role in the consumer segment. Lenovo, the Chinese giant, occupied the second place with a share of 17 percent. However, Lenovo marked an 8.8 percent decline in shipments. Lenovo performed well in the desktop category, with a YoY growth of 32.5 percent.
Dell Technologies is in the third position with a market share of 14.6 percent. Dell also made a YoY growth of 3.8 percent. IDC mentioned that the vendor decided not to do heavy stocking, and this resulted in the loss of some market share. Asus gained the fourth position with 12.5 percent of the market share. It was the biggest consumer quarter for Asus, as they shipped more than 500k units in the consumer segment for the first time. With 11.6 percent share, Acer Group is in the fifth position on the list. While Acer witnessed a decline in the commercial segment, they grew by 75.7 percent YoY in the consumer segment.
