Andhra Pradesh Schools To Remain Closed Till October 17 Amid Heavy Rainfall

Many schools, colleges, and other educational institutions in Andhra Pradesh have announced holidays till October 17 due to heavy rains. The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall for the next three days in Andhra Pradesh.

Many districts in Andhra Pradesh are witnessing heavy rainfall. The state government has announced holidays for schools and colleges in Tirupati, Chittoor, Nellore, and Prakasam districts till October 17, 2024.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted in parts of the South Coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP) and Rayalaseema. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are predicted in parts of SCAO, North Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP), Yanam, and Rayalaseema for the next four days. Also winds up to 60 km per hour are expected in the affected places.

The IMD said in a release that a cyclonic circulation lies over the west-central Bay of Bengal off south-coastal Andhra Pradesh. It extends up to 5.8 km above means sea level, moving southwestwards with height.

As per the AP State Disaster Management Authority, a low-pressure system is forming over the South-west Bay of Bengal. As the system strengthens it is predicted to move towards, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Puducherry with heavy rainfall forecasts for Wednesday and Thursday.

Also, the Meteorological Department has issued an Orange Alert for October 15 and a Red Alert for October 16 in Chennai. Schools and Colleges in Chennai, Chengalpet, Thiruvallura, and Kancheepuram will remain closed.
