Starting 2026, CBSE will conduct Class 10 board exams twice a year, allowing students to retain their best score. This move, in line with NEP 2020, aims to reduce academic pressure and offer greater flexibility.

Additionally, CBSE will introduce a Global Curriculum for 260 affiliated foreign schools from 2026-27.

The decision follows discussions led by Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan with CBSE, NCERT, KVS, and NVS officials. Draft schemes for these changes will be opened for public consultation next Monday, marking a significant shift in India’s school education system post-Covid.

Led by minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the Education Ministry recently met with CBSE, National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) officials to finalise the plan.

CBSE announced plans to implement multiple board exams annually which allows students to take their exams twice and keep their best score, aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

With the aim to reduce high pressure, a ministry official said, “The initiative aims at reducing the high pressure, one-time examination system and provide students with an opportunity to improve their performance without the stress of a single high-stakes test. By offering multiple attempts, CBSE seeks create a more supportive learning environment that prioritizes conceptual understanding over rote memorisation.”
