The Central Board of Secondary Education held the Class 10 Social Science paper today. According to experts, most students appeared satisfied and relaxed, as they were able to attempt the CBSE Social Science exam well. “However, some found certain MCQs and short-answer questions challenging,” they noted.
Timeline spoke with TGTs Ms. Sukhvinder Kaur Jadhav, Ms Dolly Garg and Ms. Kavita Awasthi about the exam conducted today in India and abroad.

“The exam was of medium difficulty and somewhat lengthy. While most of the paper followed expected patterns, some MCQs in Politics and History were slightly tricky, and a few short-answer questions required deeper understanding,” experts told Timeline.
They observed that while the exam would have been manageable for students who were well-prepared, some questions posed challenges for the average student. More specifically, the experts noted, a 2-mark question from history was tricky, and so was a 2-mark question from politics that “required conceptual understanding and application, specifically on increasing women’s representation in leadership roles.”

Other challenges included “Assertion and Reason MCQs in Politics, where students found options A & B tricky to interpret,” and “An MCQ from History (Print Culture) and Economy (Sector of Economy) with confusing answer choices,” highlighted the experts.
Both Ms. Jadhav and Ms. Awasthi stated that while the long-answer and case study questions were as expected, “some MCQs and short-answer questions required critical thinking and might not have been straightforward for all students.”
When asked if there were any out-of-syllabus questions, they told Timeline that there were none but “a few questions lacked clear expression, which may have led to confusion.”

Overall, both Ms. Jadhav and Ms. Awasthi stated, “The language of the paper was mostly clear, but some questions lacked precise wording.”
“MCQs should gradually shift towards concept application rather than pure factual recall. More practice papers from CBSE would help students adapt to evolving question patterns,” they added.
