CBSE Physics Paper 2025 Analysis: "A Challenging Test For Students," Say Experts
The Central Board of Secondary Education held the Class 12 Physics paper today. The CBSE Physics exam has left students and educators alike with mixed reactions, as many found the paper to be difficult and lengthy. “With a heavy focus on application-based questions, the exam tested students’ understanding and problem-solving abilities rather than rote memorization,” experts told Timeline.
Timeline spoke with Dr. Neetu Kapoor, Principal of Army Public School, along with Physics PGTs Anshu Khera, Rakesh Sansawal and Dinesh Yadav, about the exam conducted today in India and abroad.
“The overall nature of the questions was tricky and indirect, particularly for students who were not thoroughly prepared. Even those who had studied diligently found the paper challenging, with multiple questions requiring careful thought and advanced calculations. This was especially true for the MCQs, which often involved lengthy calculations, making them more time-consuming than expected,” they told Timeline.

The teachers added that the 5-mark questions posed a particular challenge, as they were not straightforward and required deeper insight into concepts. “A few topics seemed to be more difficult than others, with the electrostatics section standing out as a particularly tough area for many students. Many students also struggled with the case-based RC charging and discharging question, which was considered out of syllabus and unexpected,” they said.

“Another surprise for students was a question about the energy of an inductor in Set 1, which also deviated from the usual syllabus content. This left many students feeling unprepared and dissatisfied with the overall exam experience. Despite the challenging nature of the paper, there was no significant controversy, except for the unexpected case-based RC charging question. However, the general sentiment among students post-exam was one of disappointment, as the questions, though conceptually valid, were more complex than anticipated. The lengthy nature of the MCQs and the application-heavy format of the 5-mark questions left many feeling that this year’s paper was more difficult than usual,” said Dr Kapoor, Ms Khera, Mr Sansawal and Mr Yadav in their analysis.

“As in previous years, CBSE’s Physics paper continues to set a high bar, leaving students to ponder how to better prepare for such demanding exams in the future. While challenging, this year’s paper has undoubtedly tested not just students’ theoretical knowledge, but their practical and problem-solving skills as well,” they added.
