CBSE Conducts Surprise Inspections At 29 Schools, Finds Violations In Enrolment, Infrastructure

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted surprise inspections at 29 schools across six regions on December 18 and 19, as part of its goal to uphold educational standards. The inspections were carried out in Delhi on December 18 and in Bengaluru (Karnataka), Patna (Bihar), Bilaspur (Chhattisgarh), Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh), and Ahmedabad (Gujarat) on December 19.

A total of 29 teams, comprising a CBSE officer and a principal from an affiliated school, conducted these inspections in a synchronised manner within a limited time frame to ensure the element of surprise and the accuracy of findings.

The inspections were done to evaluate compliance with CBSE’s norms and Affiliation Bye-Laws. The inspection teams focused on verifying student enrolment records, infrastructure facilities, and the overall functioning of the schools.

The majority of the inspected schools were found to have violated the Board’s Affiliation Bye-Laws by enrolling students beyond their actual attendance records, effectively creating “non-attending” enrolments.

Additionally, schools were found to be flouting infrastructural norms of the Board.

Taking the violations seriously, CBSE is in the process of issuing show-cause notices to the schools found in breach of regulations. The Board is also considering legal action against the defaulting institutions.

In its statement, CBSE reaffirmed its commitment to maintain the highest educational standards and ensure strict compliance with its regulations.
