Delhi Govt Directs Schools To Follow Textbooks Prescribed By NCERT And SCERT

In a directive released by the Delhi government education department, the schools are asked to follow the textbooks published by the NCERT and SCERT. It asserted that schools can not force children of elementary classes to use books other than those prescribed by the national and state councils.

The circular said that no child should be discriminated against, harassed, or neglected based on carrying books published by the NCERT  or SCERT. The Delhi government’s directive came to ensure the implementation of section 29 of the Right to Education Act, 2009 that the curriculum and evaluation procedures for elementary education be laid down by an academic authority specified by the government.

Reportedly, many schools have publications till class 8 and charge high prices. Schools easily convince parents to have private publications in addition to prescribed books.
