Know About 'The Munna Bhais, Solver Gang' Responsible For NEET Paper Leak

Amid a row over the medical entrance test NEET, a gang that leaks paper and provides proxy candidates to sit for the exam has come into the limelight, as per the NDTV report. The head of the ‘solver gang’ Ravi Atri is the alleged mastermind behind the leak which has stirred controversy across the country.

It all began when an unusually high number of students scored a perfect 720 in the NEET-UG examination. A few of them were also granted grace marks due to faulty questions and logistical issues. This led to the investigation later uncovering that the exam paper had been leaked to the selected candidate just a day before the exam.

Though the NTA has tried to manage the fallout, the nationwide protests, legal cases, and Supreme Court intervention forced the NTA to take action.

The solver gang specialized in obtaining and distributing solved question papers via social media platforms and supplying them to the candidates who were willing to pay a hefty price for guaranteed success.

His modus operandi involves obtaining the exam papers well in advance, a day before the examination mostly, and then distributing them to the clients who had paid through social media accounts. The gang allegedly also provided the option of getting a ‘Munna Bhai,’ a proxy who would give the exam in their place, if paid more.

Ravi Atri’s journey from medical aspirant to exam mafia is quite interesting.  Atri cleared the examination in 2012 and was admitted to PGI Rohtak. He later dropped out in the fourth year. By then he had been in contact with the exam mafia and had started sitting as a proxy for other candidates. He then started to play a key role in distributing the leaked papers.

Another major figure involved in the paper leak case is Sanjeev Mukhiya. The investigation has revealed the gang’s connection extending from constable recruitment exams to teacher recruitment exams conducted by BPSC. As per reports, Mukhiya might have fled to Nepal after the eruption of the controversy.

Meanwhile, the education minister has ruled out the possibility of the cancellation of the NEET examination stating that he cannot jeopardize the careers of lakhs of students who cleared the exam rightfully because of “isolated incidents of malpractices.”
