Last-Minute Update: NEET-PG Entrance Examination Postponed After CSIR UGC NET

In a last-minute update the health ministry has postponed the NEET-PG entrance examination. The examination wsa scheduled be held on Sunday, June 23. The announcement by the ministry is followed by another update a day ago about CSIR UGC NET postponement.

The Ministry of Health has announced in a statement that the decision has been made in light of recent allegations questioning the integrity of various competitive examinations. Before this, the union education ministry had cancelled the UGC NET examination that was conducted last week. The centre government was already under the scrutiny for the mismanagement of NEET UG exam that was held for the admissions to MBBS courses in the country.

The statement has said the Ministry of Health has announced a thorough assessment of the NEET-PG entrance examination processes. Conducted by the National Board of Examination for medical students, this assessment, according to the health ministry, aims to ensure the robustness and fairness of the exam procedures.

As a precautionary measure, the Ministry has decided to postpone the NEET-PG Entrance Examination, originally scheduled for June 23, 2024. A new date for the examination will be announced as soon as possible.

The Ministry of Health said it sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused to the students due to the last minute announcement. It also said the decision has been made in the best interests of the students and to uphold the sanctity of the examination process.

In a related development today, to ensure the transparent, smooth, and fair conduct of examinations through the National Testing Agency (NTA), the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, has constituted a High-Level Committee of Experts to make recommendations on reforming the examination process mechanism, improving data security protocols, and evaluating the structure and functioning of the National Testing Agency.

The committee, chaired by Dr K Radhakrishnan, former Chairman of ISRO and Chairman of the Board of Governors at IIT Kanpur, includes Dr Randeep Guleria, former Director of AIIMS Delhi; Prof BJ Rao, Vice Chancellor of Central University of Hyderabad; Prof Ramamurthy K, Professor Emeritus in the Department of Civil Engineering at IIT Madras; Pankaj Bansal, Co-Founder of People Strong and Board Member of Karmayogi Bharat; Prof Aditya Mittal, Dean of Student Affairs at IIT Delhi; and Govind Jaiswal, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Education, Government of India.
