NEET Row: Education Ministry Seeks Suggestions For Reform In Examination Process

The Education Ministry today sought suggestions, ideas and thoughts from stakeholders including students and parents for the consideration of the committee constituted on June 22 to recommend reforms in the examination process. The move follows the recent exam fiascos that crippled the exam body, the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the education ministry after the declaration of the NEET-UG exam. The cancellation of the UGC-NET on the heels of the NEET row fueled the students’ frustration further, pushing them to the streets, demanding justice and fair conduct of exams.

The committee sought suggestions on reforms in the mechanism of the examination process, improvement in data security protocols, and structure and functioning of the NTA. The window to submit suggestions will be open till July 7.

The reaction of the public including the enraged students and parents forced authorities and the government to take immediate measures against the malpractices. The government handed over the probe to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which made its first arrest yesterday from Patna, Bihar in connection with the case.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the Ministry of Education asked stakeholders to submit suggestions for consideration to the given link.

“A high-level committee chaired by Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, Former Chairman of ISRO, was constituted on June 22, 2024. Comprising members from government organizations, academia, and higher educational institutions, the committee aims to recommend reforms in the examination process, enhance data security protocols, and review the structure and operations of the National Testing Agency (NTA). The committee is seeking suggestions, views, and ideas from stakeholders, particularly students and parents, from June 27 to July 7, 2024. Submit your suggestions at: https://innovateindia.mygov.in/examination-reforms-nta…” the post reads.

Following the row over the exam irregularities, the central government removed the NTA chief and vowed to hold those responsible for the foul play. Uttar Pradesh recently passed an ordinance implementing tough punishment including imprisonment ranging from seven to live for those involved in such offences. Kerala government on June 26 passed a resolution asking the central government to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the alleged irregularities.
