It Is Make Or Break For Vaibhav Gehlot In Jalore Lok Sabha Constituency (image@VaibhavGehlot80)

Congress’ Vaibhav Gehlot is vying to win the seat this time after losing during the 2019 Lok Sabha election. He is contesting from Jalore constituency this time. In he 2019 election, he lost against the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.

The 44-year-old politician is the son of renowned Congress leader Ashok Gehlot, a three-time Chief Minister of Rajasthan. Vaibhav has been prey to the allegations that he receive his father’s support. Vaibhav claims that he climbed the layers in ranks solely on his own merits. He is now fielded from Jalore-Sirohi constituency which is deemed as a safe seat. Located at the south-western corner of Rajasthan, the region has a huge population of Mali community, from which the Gehlot hails from.

He was linked with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) questioning over association in foreign exchange violation case against Triton Hotels and Resort Pvt Ltd, and Vardha Enterprises Pvt Ltd, before the 2023 assembly election. The politician denied all the allegations.

Vaibhav was also appointed as the president of Rajasthan Cricket Association for two consecutive terms, while his father was the Chief Minister. After BJP took power, Vaibhav resigned citing deliberate harassment and targeting. This election is a make or break situation for Vaibhav.

Vaibhav Gehlot is contesting against a grassroot BJP worker Lumbaram Choudhary, who has been active in Jalore-Sirohi region. The constituency is considered to be one of the most backward region of Rajasthan. the seat has been under the clasp of the incumbent BJP MP Devji Patel since 2009. He won three consecutive times, in 2009, 2014, and 2019.
