Wadakkanchery Records Polling With 80% Turnout
Polling in the Wadakkanchery Assembly constituency in Thrissur recorded a strong voter turnout of 79.67% as per the Election Commission data during the Kerala Assembly Elections 2026 reflecting high political participation in the Thrissur district. Voting progressed steadily across the day on Thursday, with long queues visible at several polling booths, indicating an positive response from voters. The election was conducted peacefully under tight security arrangements, with no major incidents reported. The total state-wide voter turnout in Kerala was 78.27%.
Wadakkanchery is one of the 140 Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) constituencies in Kerala. The Wadakkanchery Assembly constituency falls within the Alathur Lok Sabha constituency. A total of 2,00,280 electors are eligible to vote, of whom 96,725 are male, 1,03,552 are female, and three are of the third gender. Compared to previous election, the turnout has slightly increased. The voter turnout in Wadakkanchery in the 2021 Assembly election was 76.16%, while it was 80.91% in 2016, and 79.08% in 2011. In the Assembly elections of 2016 and 2011, the total state-wide voter turnout was 77.10% and 74.92%, respectively.
In the 2021 Assembly elections, Xavier Chittilappilly (also the current candidate of LDF) won with 81,026 votes (47.70%), defeating UDF candidate Anil Akkara, who secured 65,858 votes (38.77%), while BJP’s TS Ullas Babu finished third with 21,747 votes (12.80%), resulting in a margin of 15,168 votes. The 2026 election is being closely watched to see whether the LDF can retain its hold or if the opposition can make significant gains.
