"Cried Like A Child": Asif Ali Opens Up About Injuries Sustained During 'Tikitaka' Shoot

Asif Ali, who has been constantly entertaining the audience with his back-to-back blockbuster films, is all set to present his new film titled Tikitaka. The upcoming action entertainer, which began its production in 2023, was delayed due to an unfortunate accident that halted the shoot.

Recently, the Rekhachithram star opened up about the horrible accident he endured during the shoot. Asif also shared the team’s conviction in the film and their collective effort to offer an unapologetic cinema.

Directed by debutant filmmaker Binto Stephen and produced by Magic Frames, Tikitaka is expected to be a high-octane entertainer. With the screenplay written by Jana Gana Mana fame Sharis Mohammad, the upcoming film promises to offer a never-before experience to the audience.

Asif Ali, who plays John Denver in the upcoming film, described the character as a fighter and a resilient person who endures challenges and refuses to give up. He shared how the character became deeply connected to himself, as it took him through a similar path that demanded a lot of blood and sweat.

During filming, Asif suffered a leg injury in one of his fighting sessions, which made him bedridden for days. After an 18-month halt, the actor bounced back again with more sweat and blood while healing from meniscus and ligament tears. He said, “Unlike my character John Denver, I cried like a child in the hospital bed.”

His latest Instagram post read, “For me, it was several months of preparation to physically transform and learn the art of fighting. I gave it my all. But when we started filming in 2023, an unfortunate accident during fight training put me out of action. I spent days in bed and weeks in a wheelchair, and the most painful part was losing all the progress I had made.”

And finally, after a few setbacks and a tough journey, the team will is set to release the film by the end of the year. The team’s goal to offer an unapologetic commercial cinema has demanded a lot of conviction and effort.

Briefing the process, the actor said, “Tikitaka will be all yours by the end of this year. This movie demands a lot of conviction and effort, not just from the actors but from everyone involved.”

“While Malayalam cinema is enjoying a golden wave, we are attempting to provide a never-before experience to create an unapologetic commercial cinema for the mass euphoria of the big screen, added with action,” he added.

Asif Ali’s latest release, Sarkeet, has witnessed a good response from the audience. The family drama that hit theatres on May 8 has earned around Rs 2.55 crore worldwide. His previous release, Rekhachithram, emerged to be  the fourth highest grossing Malayalam film of the year 2025 so far, earning more than Rs 57 crore worldwide.

He will be next seen in a comedy entertainer titled Aabhyanthara Kuttavaali, written and directed by debutant Sethunath Pathmakumar. The upcoming film also stars Thulasi, Jagadish, Sreeja Das, Harisree Ashokan, Sidharth Bharathan, Balachandran Chullikkadu, Usha Chandra Babu, Anand Manmadhan, Prem Kumar, Joji, Azees Nedumangad, and Neeraja Rajendran.
