As Singham Again, the latest addition to Rohit Shetty’s cop universe, continues to perform well at the box office, the director has opened up about the possibility of creating a standalone film on Lady Singham, aka Shakti Shetty, aka Deepika Padukone.

The multi-star actioner united several stars together, reprising their cop roles, such as Ajay Devgn as Bajirao Singham, Ranveer Singh as Simmba, and Akshay Kumar as Sooryavanshi. The film also introduced two new cops into the universe, Tiger Shroff as Satya Bali and Deepika as Shakti Shetty.

Notably, Shakti Shetty, aka Lady Singham, is the first female cop in Shetty’s cop universe.

In a recent interview, Rohit Shetty, who is basking in the success of the film, revealed why it took so long to introduce a lady cop into his universe.

He said that the wait was to get the right script and the right kind of launch for the character. Reminiscing on the origin of the cop universe, the director said that till 2018, he wasn’t sure if there was even going to be a cop universe. But the success of Simmba, which also stars Sara Ali Khan, paved the way for the makers to create the universe.

While making Sooryavanshi, the makers came across the thought of creating a film with “an out-and-out lady cop.”

Speaking over the possibility of a standalone film on Shakti Shetty, the director revealed that they have a basic story arc ready and have to write the story. He also revealed that’s why the character of Shakti Shetty was emphasised in Singham Again.

Despite clashing with Karitk Aaryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa, the Ajay Devgn starrer entered the 300 crore club. However, the horror comedy, which marks the comeback of Vidya Balan as Manjulika, has gained an edge over the cop film with Rs 315 crore in the domestic collections, while Singham Again made Rs 312 crore.
