The most celebrated American sitcom Friends reached a milestone of 30 years on September 20. As the fans get excited about its pearl anniversary, it is being both bitter and sweet for the makers and the sitcom fans due to the demise of Matthew Perry, who portrayed the beloved character Chandler Bing.
Mathew Perry’s death less than an year ago, has deeply impacted the team as it made the sitcom’s achievement a, “little fraught”. Marta Kauffman, David Crane, and executive producer Kevin S Bright, who recently discussed the significance of the anniversary said that it’s a huge loss and it made the 30th anniversary a little fraught. Bright reflected on Perry’s impact, stating, “He made us laugh every day,” as per The Hollywood Reporter.

Mathew Perry passed away on late October 2023, due to an overdose of the anesthetic ketamine. About the actor’s struggle with addiction during his final days, Bright said that he had been fighting the good fight for so long. And he also mentioned that since the 2021 cast reunion, Perry had finally found some peace.
Moreover, Kauffman recalled a conversation she had with Perry just two weeks before he passed away, describing him as “happy and chipper” and in a positive emotional state. She expressed her disbelief at the suddenness of his passing, stating, that it seemed so unfair and he looked good, he quit smoking and he was sober.

Suggesting a heartwarming way to celebrate Mathew Perry, Kauffman said that one way was by donating to the drug treatment centers and the second way is to watch Friends and remember him not as a man who died like that but as a man who was hilariously funny and brought joy to everybody.
The investigations on Perry’s death revealed a broad underground criminal network linked to his use of ketamine, which ultimately contributed to his untimely demise. Following this, five individuals were indicted in connection with the case.
