The copyright dispute between the legendary musician Ilaiyaraja and the makers of the Mollywood blockbuster, Manjummel Boys have settled as the makers paid the compensation for their unauthorised use of Illayaraja music.
Composer Ilaiyaraaja, who has the legal and special rights to the song, Kanmani Anbodu, sent a legal notice to the makers of the survival thriller, in May. As the film was a massive success and the song was used extensively in the movie, Ilaiyaraaja demanded ₹2 crore, as compensation.

After receiving the legal notice, the producers of the film—Soubin Shahir, Babu Shahir, and Shawn Antony reportedly met the composer in person, since they felt the demand was exorbitant. As per the reports, this matter was eventually settled for ₹60 lakhs, as the result of intense negotiations between both parties.
The veteran singer had already sued various singers on this claim, including SP Balasubrahmanyam, for singing his compositions without permission on a world tour. Recently he also sent a legal notice to the producers of Rajinikanth-starrer Coolie for using the song Vaa Vaa Pakkam Vaa from the film Thanga Magan in a promotional video without his permission.

Inspired by a real-life incident that happened in 2006, the survival thriller features Soubin Shahir, Sreenath Bhasi, Balu Varghese, and Ganapathi S. Poduval in key roles. As widely celebrated by the audience the movie grossed Rs.242 crores in the box office. The music for the film was composed by Sushin Shyam.
