This Independence day will be a treat for cine lovers, with the much anticipated sequel, Stree 2, joining major films on board that are set to release on the big day such as John Abraham’s Vedaa, Akshay Kumar and Taapsee Pannu‘s Khel Khel Mein, and Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandanna‘s Pushpa 2 .

Previously set to release on August 30, Maddock Films announced its change in plans to the delight of fans who have been waiting for the sequel since the release of the 2018 Stree which was both a critical and commercial success. The makers of the horror comedy announced the release date with a simple teaser. The sequel is going to be directed by Amar Kaushik is produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films.

The makers have offered the audience a double treat with its teaser release announcement with a catch. The promo will not be released on social media platforms, instead will be screened directly in the theatres. The teaser of Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao‘s film can be enjoyed while watching Aditya Sarpotdar’s Munjya currently running in theatres, and also part of the Stree universe.

Announcing on X (formerly known as Twitter), Maddock Films said, have penned “Iss swatantrata diwas, aa rahi hai #Stree fir se! (This Independence Day #Stree is coming again) #Stree2 in cinemas this Independence Day, 15th August 2024. Catch the #Stree2 Teaser exclusively in cinemas with #Munjya from today. The early arrival of Stree 2 comes after the shift of Singham Again‘s release on Diwali. Earlier, Rohit Shetty’s cop drama, featuring Ajay Devgan, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor and more, was scheduled for an Independence day release as well.

Stree was directed by Amar Kaushik and produced by Dinesh Vijan and Jyoti Deshpande under the banner of Maddock Films and Jio Studios. A sequel to Stree, it is the fifth installment in the Maddock Supernatural Universe. With Stree stepping into the world of  the supernatural, Maddock Films expanded the ghostly world with Janhvi Kapoor’s Roohi (2021) also starring Rao. It was then followed by Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon’s Bhediya (2022) and the recent Munjya (2024).

The entire cast of Stree including Shraddha, Rajkummar, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee and Aparshakti Khurana are expected to return. The film garnered commercial success with a 190 crore box office collection. It’s music also gained significant attention, with tracks like ‘Milegi Milegi’ and ‘Aao Kabhi Haveli Pe’ becoming chart-topping hits.
