Film trade analyst Komal Nahta on if "block bookings are right or wrong" on YouTube (image-Youtube/ Komal Nahta Official).
The latest box office reports of blockbuster films like Game Changer, Pushpa 2, Stree 2, and others amazed the audiences. While the fans were left surprised, this record also raised questions over the credibility of the numbers, among others. Conversations around the concept of block bookings have also gained steam.
At this point, a recent video of the film trade analyst, Komal Nahta, discussing whether “block bookings are right or wrong” on YouTube has captured the attention of netizens. Block booking basically means that makers are buying the tickets for their own film in order to show bigger numbers to the audience which may then influence them to buy tickets as well.

Nahta explained how the perception of the audience plays a major role at the box office and its underlying connection with block booking and ticket inflation. He said that just like how the names of the actor, writer, and director influence the audience, the collection of the film for three days also plays a major role in influencing the perception of the audience over the film.
The film trade analyst explains how makers of films are creating a good perception in the audience’s mind through block booking. He suspected that most of the advance booking records were block bookings.
On his trade website, he also alleged that Sky Force did the maximum block bookings Hindi cinema has ever witnessed. He also accused the makers of showing week one biz over Rs 80 crore when the actual number is just Rs 40 crore.
While sharing his opinion about the Akshay Kumar starrer’s collection, he also explained the bulk booking and the refund strategy that allowed the film to report figures of Rs 80 crore when the actual earnings were significantly lower, around 40 to 50 crores. According to his findings, the movie Sky Force employed deceptive strategies to boost its reported collections.
This analysis of the trade expert has created buzz among the netizens, with many questioning the credibility. One user commented, “It should be illegal and criminal cases should be filed against manipulating people. The best part is that even cinema hall owners who are actually making money out of these criminal activities are genuine and saying this shouldn’t be done. I wish someone would file a case against PVR and other block booking people for lying to the public and making them watch their crap movies. Sir…big hugs. The only man who has guts , consciousness , and care for the future of the movie industry. Small movies anyway don’t get theaters; now because of these, they will never be out.”

Others questioned the reports offered by producers etc of other upcoming films like Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna. Speculation is rife that the makers of the period drama, produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films, has also indulged in block bookings to inflate numbers to attract audiences.
