Hansal Mehta’s crime drama series is back with another season in the Scam franchise titled Scam 2010: The Subrata Roy Saga. The SonyLiv series will be produced by Applause Entertainment, in association with Studio Next.
Following the success of the critically acclaimed Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story and Scam 2003: The Telgi Story, the third chapter in the series will be set in the early 2000s.
The series is based on the book Sahara; The Untold Story (2014) by Tamal Bandyopadhyay. Sharing the teaser of the upcoming series, filmmaker Hansal Mehta wrote, “Scam is back! Scam 2010: The Subrata Roy Saga, coming soon on SonyLiv.”

While the cast is yet to be announced, the makers have promised that just like the previous two seasons, Scam 2010: The Subrata Roy Saga will raise the bar even higher and offer a peek into, as Sameer Nair, the MD of Applause, puts it, “one of the most audacious and ambitious minds in Indian business history.”
Who Was Subrata Roy?
The series is set to follow Indian businessman and founder of Sahara India Pariwar, Subrata Roy. Sahara India Pariwar, under Roy’s leadership, grew into one of the largest and most diversified business entities so much so that in 2004, Time Magazine had called it “the second largest employer in India after Indian Railways.”
After achieving such heights, the fall seemed inevitable. Roy was accused of chit-fund manipulations, investor fraud among other charges. In 2014, the businessman was jailed after failing to pay a whopping Rs 10,000 crore.
After spending two years in jail, Roy was released on parole in 2016. His freedom didn’t last long as he was again jailed after Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) challenged his parole in the Supreme Court. At the age of 75, Roy died last year.
