Hindi filmmaker Karan Johar, in a recent interview, emphasized the importance of conviction in filmmaking, which he considered was far more crucial than logic. Citing films such as RRR, Gadar, Animal, and others, the filmmaker explained how conviction plays a role in creating blockbuster films.

Known for his family dramas and romantic comedies, Karan believed that a filmmaker’s unwavering belief in their vision can make audiences accept even the most improbable scenario.

In a recent interview with Komal Nahta, the filmmaker stated that conviction takes precedence in movies when logic fails to meet expectations. He said that great filmmakers and their blockbuster works are truly driven by conviction, and for them, logic doesn’t matter.

Karan cited Rajamouli as a prime example and said, “Take Rajamouli sir’s movies, for instance; where can you spot logic?” He further added that the Baahubali director’s films are built purely on conviction; that makes the audience believe whatever he makes.

Illustrating the function of the concept of “conviction,” he highlighted the larger-than-life action sequences of the film Gadar. Karan explained that a person single-handedly defeating 1,000 people with a hand pump is not about logic but about the director Anil Sharma’s confidence that Sunny Deol could do it. He also asserted that those who fully commit to their vision are the ones who create blockbuster films.
