The Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) has requested theater owners to ban fans’ interviews immediately after the release of a film, citing them impacting the performance of a film. They asked to cooperate in withdrawing the FDFS public review culture.
Kanguva, the latest pan-Indian release of actor Suriya, became the latest victim of this FDFS review. The excessive negative reviews that circulated online have affected the box office performance of the recently released films like Indian 2 and Vettaiyan, as per the TFPC.
As social media culture emerges to gain traction from the public, the Tamil Film Producers Council has proposed a solution to curb this. In its recent announcement, the council condemned the personal attacks and incitement of ‘hatred’ in the name of film criticism.

The council highlighted that critics can openly talk about the positives and negatives of a film, but criticizing it and making individual attacks in a way to eliminate it as a whole is an act of “total destruction” of the film industry.
It also added that critics have every right to review movies. “But we request all journalists to write film reviews keeping in mind that hatred towards a film should not be shown in the media because of personal malice,” stated the TFPC.

Responding to the criticism Kanguva received, actress Jyotika made a comment on her Instagram handle. Pointing at the baseless accusations raised over the film, she wrote, “It’s sad that they chose this much negativity for Kanguva on day 1, even before the first show was over (seemed more like multiple group propagandas) when it actually deserves an applause for the concept and effort taken by the team to create 3D and such a magnificent visual!”
She also added, “I’m surprised with the negative reviews from media and certain fraternities, as it’s not done by them to this high level for the most unintellectual big budget films I have seen earlier with age old stories, where women r stalked, double meaning dialogues r spoken and have the most over the top action sequences.”
