
What's Monsoon Malabar Coffee Mentioned In Rahul Gandhi's Reel?
During the recent visit of India’s Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, to Colombia, Pedro Pergamino, a notable coffee expert from South America, met the Congress leader, and had a brief session with him.
While speaking about coffees, Rahul Gandhi asked the coffee expert if he knew Kerala Coffee, to which Pedro replied he only knew the Indian Malabar Manson coffee, which is in Kerala.

The coffee expert was seen explaining the richness and values of the Malabar mansoon coffee, so much so that the mentioned coffee beans are being added for certain uses such as in Espresso, adding that it works very well. Due to its versatile values, the Monsoon Malabar coffee is perfect for stronger brews like espresso, cafe creme, and a Bialetti Moka Pot, among other reputed Coffees.
“Their coffee is very different from that of Colombia. They have less acidity, a lot more Cocoa and nuts. I think it is also beacuse of the altitude and the variety,” the coffee expert praised the Malabar monsoon coffee.

Sharing his chat with the Colombian coffee expert on Instagram, Rahul Gandhi wrote, “At Pergamino, Pedro revealed how every cup of coffee is a dialogue between science and creativity, a delicate balance shaped by commitment and care. Across Colombia, half a million families cultivate coffee not just as a crop but as a way of life — their craft skills woven into the nation’s identity.”

The Congress leader observed that India holds the same promise, from the hills of Wayanad and Coorg to Araku and the Nilgiris, adding that with the country’s rich soil and passionate farmers, India have the potential to craft a global story of specialty coffee that’s uniquely our own.
What Is Malabar Monsoon Coffee ?
An Indian variety of naturally processed coffee beans, Monsoon Malabar coffee is extracted from the annual monsoon humidity in India for around 3 to 4 months. The raw beans exposed to the humidity reduces the acidity of coffee beans and gives them a unique earthy flavor, which is an interesting attraction.
During British rule in India, coffees were regularly shipped to Europe, and the coffee beans grown in the damp and humid monsoon conditions, which hence gained popularity with an altered taste. This led to the discovery of Monsoon Malabar coffee. The unique coffee known for its distinctive flavor undergoes months-long processes, causing beans to swell and change color to a pale yellow, and develops a mellowed, low-acidity coffee with earthy, nutty and chocolaty notes.
The coffee is regularly turned as it absorbs moisture from the air. This results in a unique smooth brew with the least acidity and slightly weathered taste.
Monsoon Malabar coffee is extremely flavorful with its strong spicy, smoky, and earthy notes or malty sweetness, and it has been sought the world over for their distinctive earthy taste. The Coffee can be drunk pure but also goes well as a base for combining with fruitier coffees.
