New Delhi: The family of 28-year-old Parnika Jain, who allegedly died under suspicious circumstances in her South Delhi home on April 28, has accused the police of failing to investigate her death properly and is now seeking justice for their daughter.

In a strongly worded statement, the family alleged that the Vasant Kunj North police station initially ignored key evidence and refused to register a First Information Report (FIR), raising serious concerns about a potential cover-up. Speaking to Timeline, Parnika’s father, Ajay Kumar Jain, said that it was only after persistent efforts and repeated appeals that the police finally agreed to file an FIR.

Parnika Jain, the wife of Dr Ayush Bhadora, was found dead at the couple’s residence in Vasant Kunj North on Monday. Her family, who reside in Katni, Madhya Pradesh – over 800 kilometres from Delhi – stated they were not informed of her death for several hours and only learnt of the incident after all travel connectivity options to Delhi had closed for the day.

The family alleged that Parnika was subjected to ongoing domestic violence and was physically assaulted by her husband, Dr. Bhadora, on the very morning of her death. Speaking to Timeline, her father recounted that Bhadora would frequently make dowry-related demands, including asking for a car. “Whenever he physically assaulted her, we would step in and try to resolve things,” he said. “It would calm down for a while, but then it would start again.”

In one particularly distressing incident, Parnika reportedly called her parents after a bout of alleged abuse and told them that her entire body was in pain. “She said she was scared she might not survive,” her father said, breaking down in tears.

Parnika’s family suspects that the constant cycle of abuse, emotional trauma, and deteriorating living conditions may have pushed her toward a drastic step. They further alleged that Dr. Bhadora was involved in an extramarital affair, but would routinely turn the tables and accuse Parnika of infidelity.

They accused Bhadora’s family of influencing the investigation, having reached the scene nearly half a day before her family were even informed. “This entire investigation appears compromised,” stated the press release.

According to the statement released by Parnika’s family, the apartment where the incident occurred has not been sealed, and Dr Bhadora’s family continues to occupy it, potentially compromising vital evidence.

Her family has raised serious concerns about the post-mortem being conducted at Safdarjung Hospital, where Dr Bhadora is employed. They argued that this constitutes a clear conflict of interest and have demanded that the autopsy be shifted to another hospital to ensure transparency.

Parnika’s family is now actively campaigning for justice, demanding that a case be registered under Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) – culpable homicide not amounting to murder – and that an impartial and independent investigation be conducted.

“We strongly believe this is a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder under Section 304 of the IPC, and we urgently request a fair and independent investigation,” it stated.
