Fake Documents Case Involving Bangladeshis: AAP MLA’s Staff Questioned

New Delhi: Three employees of AAP MLA Mohinder Goyal on Sunday joined the probe in connection with the fake Aadhaar card documents case on Sunday. The case was related to AAP MLA’s signatures and office stamps were allegedly found in connection to a syndicate involved in helping illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.

According to Police officials, three staff members of the MLA who worked with him and assisted him with paperwork came in for questioning on Sunday and have been asked to appear again on Tuesday, Indian Express reports.

Officials added that they will certainly send another notice to the AAP MLA on Monday asking him to appear again for questioning in the case.

The case began in December, when Police raided an illegal immigration racket and arrested 11 people, including several Bangladeshi nationals residing in India unlawfully. According to Police. the suspects were involved in forgery and creating fake websites to generate fake Aadhaar cards, voter IDs, and other identification papers.

The Police seized the documents and while inspecting through the documents, they had come across a signature carrying the name of an AAP MLA. The recovered documents allegedly features stamps and Goyal’s signature. Following, two notices were sent to Goyal and his staff to join the probe. AAP MLA has been questioned by the Delhi Police’s Anti-Auto Theft Squad (AATS) last week.

As Delhi elections are around the corner, the investigations has ignited political controversy. The BJP has accused AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal for his “silence” on the matter and attacked the party for facilitating illegal activities.

In response, AAP said in a statement, “It has become BJP’s standard operating procedure: weaponise government agencies to pressure opposition leaders as elections approach, undermining democratic norms.” The party has also blamed Home Minister Amit Shah for the inflow of illegal immigrants.

Voting for the 70 assembly constituencies in the national capital will take place on February 5 and results will be declared on February 8.
