Gangrape Victim’s Father Dies By Suicide In Uttar Pradesh

The father of a gangrape victim found dead in Uttar Pradesh’s Hamirpur district on Wednesday. The deceased was the father of one of the two maternal sisters who who were allegedly gang-raped and found hanging from a tree in Kanpur village on February 29. The girls were aged 14 and 15.

The girls’ families alleged that contractor of the brick kiln (where the families of the girls work) named Ram Roop, his son Raju, 18, and nephew Sanjay, raped the girls after compelling them to consume liquor. The accused also recorded the objectionable videos of the act to blackmail the victims.

The suicide of the father comes days after two girl’s death. The family members alleges that the father was under compulsion to withdraw the complaint in the gangrape case. His body was found hanging from a tree on Wednesday, close to two km from his house.

The local police arrived at the spot and sent the body for post-mortem. The police has filed FIR against the wife and daughter of a brick-kiln contractor for abetment to suicide. The FIR was registered against Nirmala, wife of a brick kiln contractor Ram Roop Nishad and their daughter, under Section 306 of the IPC, the Hindustan Times reports as the police is saying.

Hearing the incident, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi vehemently attacked the Uttar Pradesh government and said that the woman has become a crime in the “jungle raj” and in listing several several incidents she says that, women were tortured, and their families were destroyed.

Taking to social media platform X, Senior Congress leader wrote: “In Uttar Pradesh, if victimized girls and women ask for justice, it has become a rule to destroy their families. From Unnao, Hathras to Kanpur – wherever women were tortured, their families were destroyed. Being a woman has become a crime in this jungle raj where there is no such thing as law left. After all, what should crores of women of the state do, where should they go?”
