MK Stalin In Delhi For INDIA Alliance Meet; “Distracting From Pressing Duties,” Says Nirmala Sitharaman

As Tamil Nadu Chief Minister visiting Delhi amidst several districts in Southern part of his state reeling under floods following heavy rains, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman criticised the DMK leader and said the INDIA Alliance is distracting him from executing pressing duties.

In a post on social media platform X, Finance Minister detailing the efforts of Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopters and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to rescue people from areas cut-off in 4 districts of south Tamil Nadu, she took a jibe at MK Stalin. “Helicopters of Indian Air Force under coordination of NDRF rescuing people from areas cut-off in 4 districts of south TN. Additional forces also deployed due to timely intervention by Hon. HM Amit Shah ji. I.N.D.I Alliance is distracting Hon. CM MK Stalin avl from his pressing duties.”

Meanwhile, while Tamil Nadu Chief Minister is visiting Delhi, he has two agendas; one INDIA Alliance meeting, and second, meeting with PM Modi. The INDIA bloc is to conduct its fourth meeting at Delhi”s Ashoka Hotel at 3 pm on Tuesday. The leaders will discuss their strategies for upcoming general elections and among the grouping which includes Congress, TMC, Samajwadi Party, CPI (M), and AAP among others, DMK is also a member.

MK Stalin”s appointment with the Prime Minister to seek funds to start relief and restoration work in rain-hit southern districts. “The chief minister has written a letter seeking an appointment to meet Prime Minister on Tuesday,” an official press release stated. Chief Minister would attend the INDIA bloc’s meeting at first before meeting with the Prime Minister which is planned for late Tuesday evening.

Since Sunday, the southern districts of Tamil Nadu including Tirunelveli and Tenkasi, have witnessed unprecedent rainfall resulting in flood-like situation and severe waterlogging. As per the India Today report, due to the heavy rain situation, 2,553 people evacuated from low-lying areas of four districts of Tamil Nadu to 143 shelter houses as of Tuesday morning.
