After the recent Parliament session which saw Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s fiery maiden speech as opposition leader, triggering members of the ruling party, Delhi police beefed up the Congress MP’s security outside his house. The police stepped up the security after reportedly receiving intelligence regarding the potential threat to Rahul Gandhi’s safety from right-wing groups, Indian Express reported citing senior police sources.

Rahul Gandhi speech on Monday in the lower house comprised powerful remarks on several issues including NEET allegations, Manipur, Agnipath scheme, atrocities against minorities etc. The session witnessed the Prime Minister and the Opposition Leader going head to head, creating uproar among members of the opposition and ruling party.

Members of the right-wing group had shouted slogans during a protest against Rahul Gandhi’s remark in the House during Parliament session. On July 2, a clash erupted between the BJP and Congress workers after the former staged a protest against Rahul Gandhi in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

According to a report by Times of India, there was a disturbance outside Rahul Gandhi’s residence on Tuesday, with right-wing group demanding an apology from the Congress leader for the remark against the saffron party.

However, an additional platoon of paramilitary personnel and several teams of the Delhi Police were deployed outside his residence, following the intelligence inputs.

The BJP workers were provoked after the Congress leader’s remark that “those who call themselves Hindus are engaged in “violence and hate,” while directing the attention towards the BJP members in the parliament. The Prime Minister then intervened, saying that the opposition leader insulted the whole Hindu community. Retorting to the Prime Minister’s alleged distortion of ‘Hindu remark,’ Rahul Gandhi responded by saying that the BJP, RSS or Prime Minister Modi does not represent the whole Hindu community.

On Tuesday, several portions of Rahul Gandhi’s speech in Parliament were expunged by the speaker, and that includes his reference to Hinduism in the context of the saffron party, Agnipath scheme, Manipur, NEET and more.
