Punjab: Woman Stabbed To Death By Estranged Husband After She Refuses To Leave Live-In Partner
Zirakpur, Punjab: A 37-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her estranged husband in Dashmesh Nagar, Zirakpur on Tuesday, September 1.
The victim, Poonam, is a native of Madhya Pradesh. She was living in a rented house in Zirakpur with her live-in partner, Rajiv Rishi Raj (54), since 2022. The accused estranged husband, Ved Prakash Pathak, returned to their house for years later along with Poonam’s brother Bablu.

According to the police, Ved Prakash insisted that Poonam should go back with him. When she refused, an argument broke out between him and Rajiv. Rajiv alleged that during the heated argument, Ved Prakash slapped him. When Poonam tried to intervene, Ved Prakash allegedly took out a knife from his bag and stabbed her multiple times, leading to her demise.
Poonam died on the spot. After the attack, the accused husband fled from the house with the knife and his bag. Though Rajiv and Bablu tried to catch him, Ved Prakash managed to escape.

Police have registered a murder case against Ved Prakash Pathak on the basis of Rajiv’s statement. The accused is currently absconding and a search is on to nab him. Rajiv told police that he works in the private sector and his first wife had passed away in 2007. He moved to Zirakpur for work and started living with Poonam by mutual consent in 2022. He later came to know that Poonam had not legally divorced her first husband.
