Suranya Aiyar, daughter of senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar received a notice from the Resident Welfare Association (RWA) of the locality in Delhi’s Jangpura to vacate their homes over the social media post condemning the Ayodhya temple consecration ceremony.
The notice came after Suranya”s post in which she claimed that she had observed a three-day fast from January 20 to 23 in protest against the consecration ceremony. She said that the fast was an expression of love and sorrow to fellow Muslim citizens.
The notice sent by the RWA urged them not to indulge in rants that may disturb peace or hurt the religious sentiment of their resident.
“We do not appreciate a resident rant which may disturb the peace in the colony or hurt the religious sentiments of the residents,” the notice read.
The notice urged them to adhere to the norms of good citizenship and refrain from “creating hatred and mistrust”.
The statement stated that in case you think what you have done in protest against the consecration of Ram mandir at Ayodhya, we would suggest you kindly move out to another colony where people can turn a blind eye to such hatred.
The Congress leader’s daughter posted on January 20 claiming that she has fasted in protest against the “Pran Pratishtha” ceremony of the Ram Mandir. In response to her post, the RWA said that what Ms Aiyar said through social media was unbecoming of an educated person, who should have understood that the Ram Mandir was built after 500 years, that too after 5-0 Supreme Court verdict.
They then reminded them not to take cover of freedom of speech and reminded her that as per the Supreme Court of India, freedom of speech cannot be absolute.
The Congress leader Mr. Aiyar was asked to either condemn the daughter’s post or leave the house, stating that “it’s not in good state for the colony and the society as a whole”. The association concluded its statement by urging the Aiyars not to provoke people or create hatred and mistrust among the citizens.
