‘Thousands Seeks Job In Israel Willing To Risk Their Lives’: Kharge Slams Modi Government For Unemployment

Congress President, Mallikarjun Kharge hit out at Modi government against the rate of unemployment in the country. Citing the incident of “thousands of Indians made a beeline seeking JOBS in Israel, willing to risk their lives during a war”, the Congress President pointed out the “rural distress” as daily wages for men in rural areas has become Rs 212 in 2022-2023, which is lower than that of Rs 220 in 2014.

Kharge underscored that the formal job creations in the country has fallen 30-month low, which suggest that there are no new jobs for the educated youth. Taking to his X (formerly twitter), he said that demand for work under MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) is escalating each day. He said, “Modi Govt had slashed its funds in the Budget 2023-24, but forced to allocate ₹28,000 Cr more, due to high rural joblessness”.

He further stated the growth in private consumption expenditure, which is a catalyst in creating jobs, has gone 21- year low. He said between 2018-19 to 2022-23, the individual tax collection form the public has increased by 50.55 percentage, while the corporate tax collection has increased only by 2.72 percentage, which shows the “ever-widening economic inequalities”.

While only few days are left for the final budget of Modi government, he asked, Kharge asked, “will an arrogant Modi Govt, drunk with power, ever atone for the miseries that they have inflicted on the People of India?”.

 

Earlier this month, by emphasising India’s labour mobility partnership with Israel, Randhir Jaiswal, the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, said that “We have a labour mobility partnership with several countries across the world and we have an agreement now with Israel as well. The agreement itself started long before the conflict erupted…The idea behind the agreement was to put in place an institutional mechanism that regulates migration to that country,”.

Meanwhile, the unemployed youths appear for a skill test expressed their concern over job crisis in India and stressed the promise of better salaries in Israel. They added that the war situation is not deterring them from considering the job opportunity.

Youths from several states flocking to Haryana’s Rohtak, as an Israeli team is recruiting Indian labourers. Through the recruitment campaign, Israel is planning to recruit thousands of construction workers from India as former is facing labour shortage in their country. Due to its ongoing war with Palestinian group Hamas, Israel cancelled the work permits of large numbers of Palestinians has resulted in the recruitment.
