Shocking visuals of a railway worker being crushed to death after getting trapped between moving train coaches have been doing the rounds on social media. The tragic incident occurred during a shunting operation at Barauni Junction in Bihar’s Begusarai on Saturday, according to the police, reports NDTV.
The railway worker victim has been identified as Amar Kumar Rao, who is working as a porter at the Railway station under the Sonpur Railway Division.

The heartbreaking incident happened when Rao was on his duty on platform 5 of Barauni Junction as the Lucknow-Barauni Express (No. 15204) arrived from Lucknow Junction. Rao was trying to open the coupling of the train when it arrived, and the train unexpectedly reversed, trapping the worker between the carriages.
Notably, when one of the onlookers flagged an alarm, the loco pilot, instead of taking some action to reduce the impact, reportedly exited the train and fled the accident spot. The driver’s move led to Rao being crushed by the moving engines, and to his demise on the spot.

In a separate incident, three coaches of the Secunderabad-Shalimar Superfast Express derailed near Howrah in West Bengal in the morning. Though there were no casualties or major injuries reported, the increasing number of derailments in the past few months has raised concerns regarding the train journey in the country.

According to the officials, the derailment occurred when the train was crossing over from the middle to the outer tracks. Following the back to back issues in connection with the railway, the minister who is handling the department has been facing criticism from the public.
