The music video Garbo, a Garba song penned by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, got released on Saturday ahead of the upcoming Navaratri festivities. The song, authored by Mr Modi was written long ago and is now sung by Dhvani Bhanushali and composed by Tanishk Bagchi.
Garba is a traditional Gujarati folk dance, performed around a centrally lit lamp or a picture of the statue of the Goddess Shakti. It is associated with the nine-day annual Indian festival of Navaratri, observed in honour of the goddess Durga. The festival spans over nine nights, perhaps the longest in the world, will be celebrated this year from October 15, Sunday, to October 24, Tuesday. The garba, observed by an open space gathering of people across villages and cities, is often a space to sing and dance on relationship between Lord Krishna and his Gopis.
‘Jjust Music’ presented the musical video, directed by Nadeem Shah, on YouTube with a note stating that the production is truly inspired by the “poetic notes” of the Indian PM. “So grab your squad, get your dandiyas and ghaghras ready, and let “Garbo” be your Navaratri anthem!”, they added.
Singer Dhvani Bhanushali also shared the video on her X (formerly Twitter) handle expressing her gratitude to Mr Modi. According to her, the production team did their best to revamp the song with a “fresh rhythm, composition, and flavour”.
PM Modi re-tweeting Ms Bhanushali thanked the team and conveyed his excitement and happiness to view the “lovely rendition” of the Garba song which helped him to recollect several memories from the past. He will be revealing another Garba song, penned very recently, on Navaratri. “I have not written for many years now but I did manage to write a new Garba over the last few days, which I will share during Navratri”, wrote Mr Modi.
Thank you @dhvanivinod, Tanishk Bagchi and the team of @Jjust_Music for this lovely rendition of a Garba I had penned years ago! It does bring back many memories. I have not written for many years now but I did manage to write a new Garba over the last few days, which I will… https://t.co/WAALGzAfnc
