"Why Didn't You Go To Pakistan?": Delhi Teacher Charged For Communal Remarks At Students

A Delhi government school teacher has been charged recently for disrespectful communal remarks on Muslim students while being inside the classroom.

Four students from class 9 of the school have claimed that their teacher asked them why their families didn”t go to Pakistan during the Partition. The students were celebrating the success of the Chandrayaan-3 Moon mission on August 23 when the teacher, Hema Gulati, targeted them.

A complaint was filed by the students” families on Friday. Based on the allegations, the Delhi Police have registered a case against the accused Hema Gulati, who teaches at the Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya. The matter is under investigation.

The parents have also approached the Directorate of Education to complain on the derogatory comments made by Hema Gulati.

“During Partition, you did not go to Pakistan. You stayed in India. You have no contribution in India”s freedom”, the teacher allegedly told students.

Hema Gulati also criticised Quran, the religious text of Islam, and Kaaba, the holiest shrine of Islam located in Saudia Arabia”s Mecca.

The students” families are in demand of the suspension of the teacher. “If this teacher goes unpunished, others will get emboldened. They should be told to just teach and not speak on matters about which they have no knowledge. We demand that the teacher be removed from the school”, India Today quoted a parent.

No substantial development in investigation has reported so far and the victim hasn”t made any responses.

“We received a complaint and registered an FIR. An investigation into the matter is underway,” India Today quoted Delhi Police.

The teacher has been booked under sections 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion), 295 A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and 298 (uttering words, etc, with deliberate intent to wound the religious feelings) of the Indian Penal Code, reported the Indian Express.
